Royal Jelly is a highly nutritious nectar produced by worker bees as sustenance for the Queen Bee. It is secreted from the glands of worker bees (infertile female bees) as nutrition for larvae and Queen Bee’s. The longevity and size of the queen bee is attributed to a pure diet of royal jelly.
It is harvested from bee hives during a 5-6 month period. By removing the queen bee from the hive it cannot survive, therefore worker bees endeavour to make a new queen. They fill the numerous larvae cells with excess amounts of royal jelly to stimulate the growth of ovaries within the larvae and encourage growth. The royal jelly can then be extracted from these cells and harvested for use. The process is repeated by removing the new queen bee.
Royal Jelly contains different types of B vitamin, minerals, trace elements such as copper, iron, phosphates, potassium, silicon and sulphur. It is abundant with protein, amino acids and fatty acids.
